SHOW GIRL

Self-portrait photo series, 2012

‘Show Girl’ is a self-portrait series, produced, styled and directed by Meg in Las Vegas, Nevada. Meg travelled to Las Vegas in search of the glamour and extravagance used as a reference point in her home town of Trowbridge called (Trow Vegas) by the locals. Meg chose the location of The Neon Boneyard as it is a place where the once bright lights of the Las Vegas strip are retired. Meg explores disenchantment with glamour as she poses as an off duty show girl with a male model whose real job it is to make public appearances on the Las Vegas strip as a Heman impersonator.

Commissioned by Sarah Williams, Head of Visual Arts at Jerwood Space who selected Meg for a two-year mentorship culminating in a solo show of digital video and self-portraits taking an in-depth study of reality television, glossy magazines and short-lived celebrity fame and the impact they have on those who live in ordinary towns. This work gave birth to Meg’s persona ‘Megastar’.
